Karnawał, zapusty to okres zimowych balów, maskarad, pochodów i zabaw.Uczestnicy przygotowują specjalnie na tą okazje stroje karnawałowe niezwykle bogato zdobione, często wyuzdane, mieniące się złotem, przepychem, częstym ich elementem są pióra.Rozpoczyna się najczęściej w dniu Trzech Króli, a kończy we wtorek przed Środą Popielcową, która oznacza początek wielkiego postu i oczekiwania na Wielkanoc.

- Polska tradycja-W porównaniu z zabawami organizowanymi w szlacheckiej Polsce, obecny polski karnawał wypada dość blado. Dawniej przez cały czas trwania zapust, sarmaccy bracia odwiedzali się nawzajem i biesiadowali do białego rana. Najpopularniejszą zabawą w karnawale były kuligi, czyli przejażdżki saniami zaprzęgniętymi w konie.Także obecnie organizowane są karnawałowe kuligi i oczywiście bale.Tłusty czwartek to ostatni czwartek przed Środą Popielcową, otwierający ostatni tydzień karnawału(święto pączków i faworków). Ostatni dzień ostatków, czyli wtorek przed Środą Popielcową to Śledzik-ostatnia okazja, by nagrzeszyć przed Wielkim Postem.W 2015 roku karnawał trwa od 6 stycznia do 17 lutego.
- Karnawał w Wenecji.
Wenecja nazywana jest „perłą Adriatyku” i odwiedzana przez turystów przez cały rok. Podczas karnawału, który rozpoczyna się w drugi dzień Bożego Narodzenia, miasto oblegane jest przez tłumy turystów, których łączy radość i chęć wspólnej zabawy. Symbolem weneckiego karnawału są kolorowe maski.
Karnawał w Wenecji to największe na świecie przedstawienie w którym biorą udział mieszkańcy i turyści którzy przechadzają się ulicami przebrani w stroje karnawałowe z nieodzowną ich częścią – maską.Jest to wspaniała okazja do zrobienia niepowtarzalnych zdjęć i wspólnej zabawy z tysiącami turystów z całego świata.
Karnawał rozpoczyna się pod Arsenale w niedzielę przed Tłustym Czwartkiem. Stąd tłum przebierańców wyrusza pod Bazylikę św. Marka.
Oczywiście organizowane za bale,a bilety sprzedają się bardzo szybko.

This party is a Venetian Grand Ball with a twist, a hint of mystery, an ancient legend, a little dark and eerie.
Every year during the exciting Carnival period, the purest virgin in Venice was drawn by a powerful spell to the Palace of the Count, who threw this miraculous ball attracting all the aristocracy and nobles of Venice. In order to find the purest young lady, at around midnight Igor, the devoted servant, declared the beginning of a ceremony. For you to know the rest of this story, you must have a personal invite and attend this Grand Ball where the tale unfolds before you.
The Count offers a dinner served, requiring elaborate table service comprising of numerous vessels and utensils that were designed to serve both functional and decorative purposes, definitely with a wicked edge! Prepare yourselves for an ostentatious dining experience.
